1. Taking a mid-day nap with the windows open
I don’t know about you, but one of my all time favorite things is napping with the windows open (weather permitting, of course). It super relaxing and the cool air helps me sleep better. Unfortunately I can’t do this when Pete’s around because he barks at every noise outside.
2. Watching the sunrise/sunset
I wish I lived near the beach so I could watch the sunrise there, but for now I’ll have to settle for watching it while sitting on our patio. Now that the weather is finally much warmer, I’m looking forward to spending my morning drinking coffee and reading on our patio.
3. Working out in the morning
I’m currently doing yoga every morning for 30 days to see how it affects my mood, flexibility and every aspect of my life. I plan to do a post about it at the end, so keep an eye out for that. So far, I’m absolutely loving it, and I can’t believe I ever started my morning without yoga. Doing yoga makes me feel productive and accomplished every day.
4. Taking a walk outside
Getting fresh air is an instant way to increase endorphins and lift your mood. I’m looking forward to taking morning walks with Pete in the summer and getting at least 10-15 minutes outside before I have to head to work.
5. Spending time with friends/significant other without technology
I’m striving to do this more frequently while at home. When I keep my phone in another room, I enjoy the time with my friends and family so much more. There’s nothing sadder (in my opinion) than when I see a group of people out at dinner and everyone is staring at their cell phones. I just don’t get it. Why don’t you just have dinner alone?!
6. Not setting an alarm before bed
When I don’t have to set an alarm on the weekends, my life is complete. I wish every day was like that. Try not setting your alarm this weekend and I’ll guarantee you’ll wake up in such a better mood. For during the work week, I’ve recently switched up my alarm sounds. It used to be this horrible sounding, loud chiming sound, but now it’s “Ripples”. If you have an iPhone, go to your alarm settings and listen to “Ripples” it’s so relaxing!
7. Watching an old favorite movie
Some of my favorite movies that put me in a good mood include Night at the Roxbury, Bridesmaids, Horrible Bosses and Pitch Perfect. I’m so excited to see Pitch Perfect 2. Anyone else?!
8. Spending time with your pet
I absolutely love Pete. He does the craziest things that automatically bring a smile to my face. Yesterday, for instance, we finally took off his donut from when he got fixed and he ran around our apartment like a crazy person. Even when I’m having a crappy day, he makes it so much better.
9. Turning on an upbeat playlist
I’m one of those people that listen to sad music when I’m sad. It never helps, but for whatever reason I do it. Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of upbeat music on Spotify and putting together happy playlists.
10. Treating yourself to your favorite latte, glass of wine, or micro brew
Nothing relaxes me more at the end of a long day than a glass of my favorite wine or a hot cup of tea. Make sure to treat yourself every once in a while because you’ve earned it!

I also really LOVE getting my hair, nails and toesies done… I’m a pampering type! It’s super nice when I feel loved and soothed. It’s my favorite kind of self love and care. I listen to a lot of music to cheer myself up or in any sitaution really, I’m most productive and functional when I have music in my life! 🙂
🙂 it’s important to treat yourself sometimes!!
I love posts like this, especially a short and sweet list that gets me out of a funk. Thanks for sharing Nicole!
I love waking up without an alarm!! And hanging out with Punkin is probably one of my favorite things to do in the world!
