Like so many of us, I made visions boards for 2024… a representation of what I wanted this year to look like, in various aspects of my life. And while they are motivational, I also like more concrete things to do to set the year up for success. Enter my list of to-do’s to make 2024 the best year yet.
1. Renew your passport
Starting this list off strong and random, I know. But hear me out. If you want to do any sort of international travel this year, your passport can’t be expired… or even close to being expired (check these requirements by country).
2. Learn how to habit stack
Habit stacking is one of my favorite things that I’ve integrated into my life last year. Habit stacking is when you build new habits into existing routines to make a change in your lifestyle. For example, if you want to get better at practicing gratitude, think about 3 things you’re grateful for every morning while you brush your teeth.
3. Clean up your phone and social media
This includes your contacts, photos, unused apps, messages, and accounts followed. Get rid of anything that isn’t relevant anymore. Many of us are attached to our phones, so make it a place that bring you calmness and joy. Make your background photo something that makes you smile every time you open your phone. Delete any accounts that you hate follow or make you feel icky when their content pops up.
4. Invest in a morning routine
Find time to carve out time for yourself in the mornings before you have to go about your responsibilities. After I drop my daughter off at school, I leave time to journal/meditate, workout, and drink my coffee. It’s not always a large chunk of time depending on the day, but I make sure to do at least 1-2 things for myself before having to sit down at my desk to work. Everyone is in a different chapter of their lives, so do what works best for you.
5. Do more of what you loved as child
Think of the hobbies you had as a child… dance? drawing? running? Try adding more of those things into your life now. Maybe you try a new dance class once a month or dedicate your Friday mornings drawing. See how it makes you feel.
6. Listen to something inspirational
Podcasts are amazing because you can get free advice on just about any topic. If books are more your thing, try audiobooks. I recently discovered that Spotify premium membership includes audiobooks! I listen when I’m going through my inbox in the morning, taking a walk, driving, and even while cooking.
7. Make style boards on Pinterest
Feeling like you hate everything in your closet? Yep, me too. Half of my closet is from pre-Covid times and the other half is a pile of mix matched pieces based on trends I’ve picked up over the last few years. Make a Pinterest board with all the style images you’re drawn to. I have one for Fall/Winter and one for Spring/Summer. That way, when you’re going to purchase new clothes, you can check there to see if it falls in line with your ideal personal style.
