Thank you for all the birthday wishes on my blog, FB, and Twitter. Bry gave me my presents at midnight. (it’s a tradition we started last year) I got Essie “Chinchilly” nail polish, new Fossil flats, and a fleece + cable-knit throw blanket from Pottery Barn. Although I had to work during the day, I came home to sushi for dinner + UGG slippers from Bry’s parents. Pretty great birthday if you ask me.
Now since this is the last weekend until Christmas, I thought I’d do the 25 Holiday Questions Survey going around.
- Eggnog or hot chocolate? I’ve never had eggnog, nor do I ever wish to try it in the future. My favorite kind of hot chocolate is the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate from Starbucks. For some reason, they just seem to get it right.
- Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Even when I was younger, I’m pretty sure that my parents told me that Santa brought the presents and my mom wrapped them. I think it’s because I heard her wrapping presents one year in our basement.
- Colored lights on tree/house or white? White. I’m not a fan of colored lights. Growing up we only ever had white lights.
- Do you hang mistletoe? I’ve never, but it seems like a good idea for next year.
- When do you hang your decorations up? Usually right after Thanksgiving. It seems too early any time before that.
- What’s your favorite holiday dish *including dessert? I’ve been a vegetarian for 4 years now, so I don’t take part in eating what the rest of my family has… however, last year we went to my Uncle John’s house and he had made sweet potato/pumpkin soup and it was to die for. My favorite dessert is apple pie.
- Favorite holiday memory as a child? Waiting at the top of the steps with my sister. We weren’t allowed to come down until my mom and dad got their coffee and my dad could set up his video camera. Those 5 minutes were the longest 5 minutes ever!
- What is on your Christmas wishlist this year? A lot of stuff actually, and I got some of the items for my birthday. Bry made me write down everything I wanted– no regard to price. I don’t expect to get these items, because they are just a bit too expensive: a Michele watch & a Canon DSLR.
- Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve? Nope.
- How do you decorate your Christmas tree? In the past my family used to put up all white lights, then the ornaments, an angel for the top, & then once Santa came he added tinsel.
- Snow. Love it or dread it? The first few snow falls of the year are always magical. Except this year when it snowed right before Halloween– that was just strange. Once its February, I’m tired of the snow.
- Real tree or fake tree? REAL. ALWAYS.
- Do you remember your favorite gift? The year my sister and I got a Playstation. The original. We played Wheel of Fortune and the Grinch game with my mom for days!
- What’s the most important thing about Christmas to you? Spending time with my family. I don’t get to see my sister and my dad as much as I could, so this year I hope to stop by and give them their gifts.
- What’s you favorite holiday dessert? Apple pie with homemade whipped cream.
- What is your favorite tradition? For the past few years Bry and I made it a point to find the coolest, biggest, brightest Christmas displays. This year we went to Koziar’s Christmas Village.
- What tops your tree? Right now I think it’s a star, but when I was younger it was always an angel.
- Do you prefer giving or receiving? Giving. I love walking around the mall trying to find the perfect gift, coming home and spending all afternoon wrapping. I think I’m the only human on the planet that actually looks forward to gift wrapping and finding the most perfect wrapping paper.
- What is your favorite Christmas song? Wow, this one is hard. I think it would have to be anything sung by Zooey Deschanel or the Peanuts characters.
- Candy Canes, yuck or yum? I don’t care for peppermint anything, but Starburst flavored candy canes are pretty tasty.
- Favorite Christmas movie? Home Alone. I need to watch this, this week.
- What do you leave for Santa? Nothing now, obviously. But when I was younger we always left cookies and milk for Santa & oats and glitter in our yard for the reindeer.
- Do you have a Christmas morning tradition? Open presents & drink lots of coffee.
- Do you prefer to shop online or at the mall? Both because sometimes things I can’t get in person I can get for a discounted price online.
- Christmas letter or card? Card. I can’t wait to send some out next year.
