beauty tools i cant live without

Over the past year, I’ve become a bit obsessed with skincare. I’m easily influenced by things I see on social media and will give anything a try. But as you can imagine, so much in the beauty space is gimmicky and I hate clutter. I only keep the items that I reach for everyday and can’t live without. I’ve seen such great results from using these items consistently. They also just make my beauty routine feel spa-like, which is always a good thing. I priority self-care and my beauty rituals are part of that.

Gua Sha

The item that kickstarted my obsession with skincare tools is Gua Sha. Gua Sha is the traditional Chinese technique of facial massage that’s been used for thousands of years. It helps to relieve pressure in the face, increase circulation, and encourage lymphatic drainage. You apply gentle pressure as you sweep the curved stone along your neck, jaw, cheekbones and brows. Here’s a great video to learn more. You want to use an oil or serum to allow the stone to glide easier. I Gua Sha every night in the shower after I wash my face and use a bit of face wash as my “serum”. I swear it has slightly changed my face shape. Each type of stone is unique and contain different properties. Jade, the one I use, is a natural detoxifier and improves the flow of energy and soothes muscles.

Ice Roller

A newer obsession is my ice roller. Honestly, I’m not sure why I waited so long to try it. I ice roll in the mornings as a way to wake myself up. It’s my favorite part of my morning routine. It reduces puffiness and redness, boosts circulation, and shrinks the size of my pores before I apply my makeup. And also… it just feels good! My daughter Vienna is obsessed with my ice roller now (and really all things spa-related), so I’ll be buying a second very soon.

Dry Brush

Something I use before showering is my dry brush. Dry brushing stimulates the lymphatic system and is a way to do a full body exfoliation, buff off dead skin cells, and stimulate blood flow. It’s also amazing at reducing inflammation. I start at my feet and brush upwards towards my heart, then continue to brush other parts of the body in the same way. The important thing is to use quick, short movements.

Scalp Massager

I started using a scalp massager after buying one for Vienna. She was having some shampoo residue and I needed something to gently exfoliate her scalp. We use this wet in the shower, but you can also use on dry hair. The bristles help to exfoliate and remove dirt, oil, an buildup from your scalp. I also love using it to evenly distribute shampoo throughout the hair.

Face Scrubber

I’m big on double cleansing. That means literally what it sounds like. You wash your face twice. I wash my face first with face wash and a washcloth and then go in a second time with a silicone face scrubber. It’s alarming how much makeup still remains after one cleanse. The scrubber helps exfoliate and clean your skin without being too abrasive. I love that it has a suction on the back, so it’s easy to hold between your fingers and attach to your shower wall when you’re done.
