Hey! I’m starting a new series called At the Moment, so welcome to the first post. My goal is to do this monthly, but we’ll see how it goes. Each post will highlight the things I’m listening to, reading, loving, and eating. I share a lot of this on IG stories in real time, but I plan to talk more in depth about these items (including links) here on the blog. Let’s get into then, shall we?
Listening
I make a Spotify playlist every season. I see it as a work in progress, as I add new songs throughout the season as I discover them. Warmer months always have a lot of country and upbeat pop, while colder months have more acoustic and slow jams. It’s just what I gravitate towards. So far for spring I’ve got “Open Eyes” by Jake Scott, “Mean It” by Lauv and Lany (whole album is amazing), “Intentions” by Justin Bieber, “Getting Good” by Lauren Alaina, and “With You” by Jessica Simpson. Jessica Simpson is a throwback fav, but it makes sense if you keep reading this post.
Reading
I’m currently reading “Open Book” by Jessica Simpson. I’m almost done but need to mention it here because I love it so much. I was a massive Jessica fan when I was younger, so when I saw the press about her new memoir, I knew I wanted to read it. It does not disappoint! It’s such an honest, heartwarming, raw book. Jessica is the narrator of the audiobook and you can hear the pain and sadness in her voice during some parts, including her cousin’s death and her divorce with Nick. I’ve always been team Jessica, but this book made me appreciate her talent and who she is at her core so much more.
Loving
I try to keep my home as clutter free as possible with a toddler running around. When my environment is disorganized, my mood is affected. I get frazzled and overwhelmed to the point that it feels like I’m suffocating. One area that’s gotten a bit out of control is our kitchen, and I’m determined to get it back in order ASAP. There’s three areas that I’m prioritizing first: spices, Vienna’s plates/cups/silverware, and cleaning supplies. These items are thrown around our cabinets and it’s making me crazy.
Cleaning supplies seemed like the easiest of the three to organize, so I’m starting there. One of the simplest ways to create a streamlined space is to get rid of ugly containers and labels. (That’s why cereal and pasta are decanted into clear canisters in those gorgeous Pinterest pantries.) I purchased these glass amber spray bottles from Amazon to hold countertop and glass cleaners. They look so much nicer than the plastic single-use bottles, and will save money in the long run. I plan on sharing some before and afters of my kitchen organization once my projects are done!
Eating
I’ve been eating a few things on repeat lately. First, raw veggies which certainly isn’t a bad thing. Specifically… sliced cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and bell peppers, sprinkled with salt and pepper. That’s it. So simple, yet super delicious. Since those veggies have a high water content, it’s keeping me hydrated when I forget to drink enough water. It also balances out the amount of sugar I consume on a regular basis.
Second, I’ve been consuming way too much coffee lately – either a large hot coffee with cream and sugar from Dunkin’ or a grande extra hot caramel macchiato extra drizzle from Starbucks. I should really start making coffee at home, because my coffee addiction is getting quite pricey.
