The Blue Bell Inn hosted Bryan and I for brunch.
As always, all opinions are my own. For more information see my disclosures here.
Brunch might be my favorite meal, so I’m always looking for new restaurants to check out. Yesterday, Bryan and I visited the Blue Bell Inn in Blue Bell, PA. The restaurant was recently renovated, and reopened for business in April 2014. It was redesigned to enhance an open floor plan with unique rustic-meets-modern flair. The weather was gorgeous so we sat outside on the new flagstone patio, near the fire pit and waterfall.
We used to live near the Blue Bell Inn, but never stopped in for a meal. I learned yesterday that the Inn has history! It opened in 1743, and one of the original patrons was George Washington. The room Washington slept in still exists and is used to display military memorabilia from the Revolutionary War.
Drinks
When I think of brunch, the first thing that comes to mind are mimosas. I ordered a traditional mimosa, while Bryan tried the Man-mosa. The Man-mosa consisted of draft beer, fresh orange juice and a touch of vodka. I’d never seen anything like the Man-mosa before, so we were both intrigued. It didn’t disappoint!
We didn’t order it, but if you’re planning on staying a while, the Inn also has Never-Ending Mimosas and Bloody Marys. Their Bloody Mary is great for all you meat-eaters. It’s the traditional tomato mix plus vodka, but it’s served in a bacon rimmed glass and topped with a blue crab claw.
Appetizer
The Blue Bell Inn has a raw bar that I was dying to check out. One of my goals this summer was to try a raw oyster, and yesterday was the day. We ordered a half dozen west coast oysters (three Emerald Cove and three Fat Bastards, both from British Columbia). They were served with cocktail sauce, mignonette, horseradish and lemon wedges. We chose west coast oysters because they tend to be less briny than those on the east coast. Between the Emerald Cove and Fat Bastards, our favorite were the Fat Bastards because they were more “meaty.”
We are so glad that we tried raw oysters, because they are amazing! Once we got past the texture, we could really enjoy the flavor of the oyster. We can’t wait to try east coast oysters next.
Entrees
I ordered the Keep it Simple – eggs, potatoes and English muffin + a breakfast meat which I gave to Bryan. It’s something I normally order no matter where we go. It’s interesting to see how restaurants spruce up simple meals like this. The potatoes were very unique to the Inn. Some of the potatoes were cubed, while others were little strips. I ordered them extra crispy and were very pleased with how they came out. I’m not sure what exactly they were seasoned with, but I’m going to guess chili powder. You may know that I love anything spicy, and these certainly had some kick!
Bryan ordered the Going Old School, which was a 4-ounce sliced tenderloin, eggs, English Muffin and potatoes with a side of Hollandaise (not pictured). He enjoyed the Hollandaise and spread it on the steak and eggs. He also thought that the potatoes were phenomenal and definitely made the dish.
Dessert
I normally wouldn’t eat dessert at 11am, but I had to try two of their seasonal homemade ice cream flavors: brown butter and toasted banana. We were served three small scoops that were the perfect portion after a large brunch. The ice cream was really creamy and absolutely delicious when mixed together. We ate them so quickly that I forgot to snap a photo!
After Brunch
When we were finished brunch, we had the opportunity to tour the Inn and see a few of their private dining spaces. They have 12 rooms that serve anywhere from 12 to 90 guests. The Inn has the ideal space for every time of occasion from bar/bat mitzvahs to fundraisers, rehearsal dinners, and corporate dinner parties.
Check out this old menu. Diners could order a prime rib for just $4.75 and filet mignon for $6!
When the restaurant was undergoing renovation, the construction crew found these old bottles. How cool are they?! Now they’re housed in the lobby for all guests to see and appreciate as they enter the restaurant.
The Blue Bell Inn won Best Suburban Brunch by Philadelphia Magazine, and now we know why. It’s a great spot for guests of all ages, and I can’t wait to introduce this place to all of my friends.

Thanks Danica! Love your new website! Can’t wait to see the finished product in September.
Any restaurant that has a raw bar is a winner in my book – LOVE raw oysters.
First time having them and they were AMAZING!
