I talk about fitness and health a lot here on the blog, but I also enjoy just writing about aspects of my daily life – what I’m drinking on a Friday night, places I’ve traveled, or how wedding planning is going.
Today I bring to you… the books I’m currently reading. To be fair, I actually just uploaded these to my Nook app a few days ago, so I haven’t really gotten into either of these books yet. I am excited to start reading these because I’ve heard wonderful things about both of them.
Me Before You
I actually found this book from scrolling through Instagram. A few of the people I follow started the book recently and ranted and raved about how amazing it was. Of course I was curious, so I googled the book and realized it was a love story. Now, I typically don’t like reading love stories. I think the last love story I read was The Notebook and that was only because I heard a movie was being made. However, I was intrigued so I downloaded this book.
Here’s the synopsis from Amazon.
“Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has never been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex–Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.
Will is acerbic, moody, bossy—but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living.
A Love Story for this generation, Me Before You brings to life two people who couldn’t have less in common—a heartbreakingly romantic novel that asks, What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?”
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
Ahh, Gillian Flynn. I just finished Gone Girl a few months ago and I fell in love with this author. Gone Girl was basically perfection and I’m thrilled that it’s being made into a movie. A movie with Ben Affleck nonetheless. It’s going to be fantastic, at least I hope so because the book was amazing.
After reading Gone Girl, I searched online for Gillian’s other books. She has a few others out there, but Sharp Objects received many positive reviews so I wanted to start with this one. Gone Girl and Sharp Objects are both mysterious, psychological drama type of books which is normally the genre I reach for if I’m reading fiction. I love the suspense in these types of books!
In case you are wondering, here is the synopsis from Amazon.
“Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family’s Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming.”

I need to add Sharp Objects to my “to read” list! I am currently reading Mockingjay, the third book in The Hunger Games series. I know, I’m a little behind! lol The last book I finished was The Letter by Marie Tillman and it was WONDERFUL–highly recommended!!!
Hey! I’m reading Sharp Objects too! So far so good. I will check out the first book also, I actually like romance novels so I might like it 😉
I’m starting it tonight! So excited to finally read it. I’ve heard amazing things. Gillian Flynn is amazing.
I loved loved loved Sharp Objects. It was my favorite G. Flynn book. I recommend reading Dark Places but it really pales in comparison to Gone Girl and Sharp Objects. Still very good though! I (like Kelly) recommend Reconstructing Amelia. Especially if you like Gillian Flynn. Me Before You is on my to-read list!
Oh great! I’m definitely going to have to download that one next. Thanks for the recommendation!
I did read Me Before You. I didn’t think I’d like it (it was kind of sappy) but it sucked me in. I have Sharp Objects on my Kindle. Right now I am loving The Bean Trees (Barbara Kingsolver) and I just read The Invention of Wings (Sue Monk Kidd).
Yea, I typically don’t like sappy books either, but I’ve heard great things about this one so I thought I’d give it a try. I love books that draw me in from the very beginning.
I belong to a book blogger club (fromelefttowrite.com) so I get to read awesome books all the time. Outside of that I recently read Reconstructing Amelia, which was amazing, it only took me 3 days!
Oh that’s so fun! I think I’ll need to join 🙂
I’ve been dying to read Gone Girl!! And Sharp Objects sounds just as good!! Going on my list.
OMG OMG, gone girl was fantastic! go download it now!
Ohh I loved Gone Girl, too – I’ll definitely check out Sharp Objects, thanks. I think I’ve heard of Me Before You, as well, but don’t know much about it. I’ll keep that on my radar.
AH BOOKS. I’m in the middle of two right now, ha. Double Down (political) and Eat The Yolks (nutrition/lifestyle/history/mythbusting–blog review soon to come). I have a stack on my shelves of novels that are just waiting for me when these two are finished!
