On Monday night, I was invited to attend a media dinner at the new East Coast Wings & Grill in Philadelphia. East Coast Wings & Grill is a North Carolina franchise, and the Philadelphia location is the first in the northeast. The brand is known for it’s 75 flavors of chicken wings from nine heat intensities. The flavors are inspired by different cultures – The Islands, Tex Mex, Classic American, Asian, Southern BBQ, European, Bayou and more.
I was able to bring a date, so of course Bryan came along. When I told him dinner would include wings and burgers, he was all on board!
While we waited for the food to arrive, we both ordered the Strong Island Iced Tea. It came with a trendy mustache straw that was too funny not to photograph.
First up on the agenda was a basket of their delicious house-made potato chips and ranch dip. I loaded up on them and kept telling Bryan that I need to make these at home. Honestly, I’d come back just to order basket after basket of these. Obviously, I’d order a few other things too, but gosh are these amazing!
Next, Bryan sampled a few of the honey BBQ wings of various heat intensities, from “virgin” all the way up to “inferno.” He said that as the heat intensified, you didn’t lose any flavor from the wings. If you’re looking for something super hot, go with the “inferno”, but if you’re looking for something a bit less spicy, choose the “volcanic” heat.
After sampling the wings, we had the sweet and sour BBQ shrimp tacos. I’m a huge fan of fish tacos, but can be pretty picky. These were very flavorful and filled with shrimp. Some places can scrimp on the shrimp (say that fast!), but not East Coast Wings! Side note: if any one is wondering, I’m no longer following a strict gluten free, dairy free diet.
The two burgers were next. Both aren’t in restaurants yet, but will launch in October. First was the Big Daddy Patty Melt: two Angus beef patties sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches! Bryan said that the ghost cheese added a unique but delicious flavor to the burger.
After the Big Daddy Patty Melt was the East Coast Wings Breakfast Club, which is quite literally a breakfast on a bun: an Angus beef burger topped with melted American cheese, bacon, a mini Belgian waffle, fried egg, lettuce, and tomato, served with a side of maple syrup. This was Bryan’s favorite part of the entire night. He texted his friends all about the deliciousness of this dish.
We finished off the night with The Original Cookie Skillet. I’m a sucker for anything sweet, so I may have devoured a bit more than I had intended. What can I say?! A warm and gooey chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream and fudge is the way to my heart.
I can’t wait to go back to East Coast Wings and Grill and order more things off their six page menu! They really do have something for everyone. Have you ever visited an East Coast Wings? Comment below and let me know your thoughts.
