Did you know that 90% of the trash polluting our oceans comes from plastic products? Yep. Pretty scary thought, especially because we can do our part to help reduce it by using more sustainable products.
One of my local blog friends, Sarah, recently posted about her fav eco-friendly products, and it sparked my interest to create my own list. Like Sarah, I’m not perfect. I don’t live a 100% sustainable lifestyle, but I try my best.
Keeping these products below on hand has really helped me make healthier lifestyle choices, while also helping the environment. Not too shabby. Let’s get into the list:
Glass Water Bottle
I’m a very visual person, and if I don’t like the way something looks, I won’t use it. Water bottles are no exception. It has to look cute! I have a few glass bottles that I use for different purposes, and this first one is strictly for water. When I want to spice it up a bit I throw in some fruit and mint for a quick and simple spa water. The bottle comes with me everywhere – to the office, in the car, to yoga class, to the mall {ha!}. It’s a daily essential in my book. It’s BPA-free and lead-free, so rest assured you won’t be ingesting any nasty chemicals. Also, drinking water from a glass bottle tastes SO much better than from plastic or aluminum. Try it.
Glass Juice Bottle
Next up is another glass bottle. This one I use exclusively for juices and smoothies because it has a large lid and straw. Love using it for my immune booster smoothie and my post-workout green smoothie. Just like the one above, it’s BPA-free and lead-free.
Mason Jars
Mason jars are probably the most reusable tool in my kitchen, because they are so versatile. I use them to hold oats, baking supplies, dishwasher pods, extra hand soap, fruits and veggies, and so much more. The possibilities are endless. They come in different sizes, but the pint jars are the ones I grab the most.
Lunch Box
Lunch boxes are kind of nerdy, but they are an essential if you work outside of your home. If you’re still using a brown paper bag, PLEASE switch to a reusable option. I like the one I have from the company Thirty One, but they don’t sell it online anymore. However, I found a really cute one on Amazon that I’m thinking about buying too. I love that it has two separate compartments for food. That way, I can keep my breakfast on top and lunch on the bottom. {No more squished bananas!} Since I eat both meals at my desk, this lunch box would make packing food super efficient and well organized. WIN.
Food Storage Containers
My favorite food storage containers are made from plastic. I know, I know. Don’t kill me for this. These aren’t as eco-friendly as glass containers… but I pick and choose my battles. I like these BPA-free plastic food storage containers because they are lightweight. When I’m bringing them to and and from work, they aren’t weighing down my lunch box. You know what I mean? They are still much better for the environment than containers that you trash every day.
Silicone Straws
I already told you the statistic about how plastic makes up 90% of the trash floating in our oceans. Well, straws are a huge part of that. In fact, straws are among the top 10 marine debris items. AND… in 25 years, over 6 million straws were picked up during annual beach clean up events. Not only that, but plastic straws are usually not BPA free, so why not switch to something better?
Because of all of this, I’ve made the switch to these colorful silicone straws. I bought them from Amazon Prime and never looked back. They are high quality, BPA-free, non-toxic – and best of all, they fit into all of my glass bottles. They are super easy to clean too. You just throw them in the dishwasher!
// That’s all I’ve got for today. I’m sure there are some other eco-friendly wellness essentials in my kitchen, but the 6 above are the ones that I reach for the most. Make sure you’re subscribed to my weekly e-newsletter for exclusive content right to your inbox. Talk soon. xo, Nicole

I am OBSESSED with those straws…. I probably have like 20 of them by now!
LOL me too! I ordered a bunch last summer, but am thinking about getting more 🙂
Yay! Love your mention of marine debris! #oceanconservancy
DEFINITELY!
Love this!! I’ve been meaning to buy a glass water bottle b/c I drink so much water at work and at home…just purchased one for me and Mike! 🙂
That’s awesome! I love my glass bottles. They are heavier, but water tastes SO much better out of them.
