Halloween is this weekend, and I can’t believe how quickly it came around this year. Bryan and I aren’t getting dressed up or going to a party, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t celebrating. During the day, we’re heading up to Jim Thorpe, PA (one of my favorite places). We’re going to walk around the town, check out the shops, and take a train ride through the mountains. At night, we’re going to catch up on American Horror Story, and if I’m lucky, I’ll talk Bryan into watching Hocus Pocus for the millionth time. Doesn’t hurt to try, right?
When I was brainstorming a Halloween post to write, I knew what I didn’t want to do. I didn’t want to publish a post all about calorie restriction and exercising off your Halloween candy. You know what I’m talking about. Those articles that say “run 393924 miles to burn off 1 Kit Kat bar.” Let’s live a little. Ok?
Today I’m sharing with you my Halloween dos and don’ts to keep in mind this weekend.
Do:
– Bake pumpkin seeds. They are high in magnesium, protein, zinc and antioxidants.
– Drink lots of water, especially if you’re having a few cocktails.
– Be festive, no matter what you’re doing. If I don’t have any crazy plans, I still wear my Halloween socks.
– Watch scary movies. My favorites include The Shining, A Nightmare on Elm Street and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (ok, that last one isn’t scary).
– Watch out for trick-or-treaters running around the streets if you’re driving some place.
– Make homemade animal-friendly goodies for your pet. A frozen mixture of banana + pumpkin is a great treat in moderation.
Don’t:
– Drink and drive. Come on people. Be safe.
– Forget to pick up a bag of candy for trick-or-treaters.
– Dress too scandalous. That sexy nurse costume has been overdone anyway.
– Overdo it on the fun-sized candy bars.
– Look under your bed or inside your closet…
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
YES – I love the emphasis of safe driving while trick-or-treaters are out. This was something I learned since getting my license. Dusk hits and drivers should be much more cautious.
Thanks, Jenn. Yes, safe driving is SO important. Kids just dart in the street. We have to be careful!
