5 of our Favorite Holiday Books for Children

For those of you who are new around here, my daughter Vienna turns 3 in February. She’s finally at an age when she gets really excited for the holidays. She’s been talking about Santa every day for weeks. We had so much fun reading Halloween books together that I knew I had to purchase Christmas-themed books this year. I’m making it a tradition to add a few festive books to Vienna’s bookshelf for each major holiday. Below are five of our favorites for the Christmas season.

Little Blue Truck’s Christmas

Little Blue Truck’s Christmas is about a truck that travels around the community selling five Christmas trees. If your kids love trucks like my daughter, they will absolutely love this book. It reinforces counting and even has a light up tree at the very end. Vienna gets so excited when she knows the last page is coming!

A Frozen Christmas

Vienna is the biggest Frozen fan. So when I found out there was a A Frozen Christmas book, I ordered it right away. The book is on the shorter side which makes it a quick read (unless your child wants to read it multiple times like mine). Each page has beautiful glittery illustrations.

The Night Before the Night Before Christmas

The Night Before the Night Before Christmas tells the story of a family on December 23 who can’t seem to catch a break as they prepare for the big day. You’ll read one bad thing after another and wonder if the story has a happy ending. I teared up while reading this, and I know you will too. Be prepared!

The Poky Little Puppy’s First Christmas

A family member gave us a copy of The Poky Little Puppy’s First Christmas for Vienna’s first Christmas and it’s been a hit every year since. We should really order another copy because Vienna tore a lot of the pages when she was younger. If you’re familiar with the Poky Little Puppy books, you know that he loves going on adventures. In this story, Poky learns about the spirit of Christmas after finding an animal friend who’s lost his home.

The Night Before Christmas

The Night Before Christmas is such a classic. I bought this version (which took me weeks to acquire) a few years ago and save it to read only on Christmas Eve. This hardback copy is heirloom quality with stunning illustrations from renowned New York Times bestselling artist Charles Santore.
