How to become a book lover

{The Miracle Morning, Rich Bitch All the Light We Cannot See}

1. Switch It Up

When I was in college, all I enjoyed reading were nonfiction books (mostly self-help). I loved motivational books like The SecretSkinny Bitch and He’s Just Not That Into You. After a while, those kinds of books bored me so I stopped reading all together. I used to hate fiction books, but last year I started reading again and found a new love for them.

Sometimes all you need to do is switch it up. Pick up a book you normally wouldn’t. You might be surprised.

2. Create a Reading Nook

This is something that I’m still trying to do in my own home. I’m hoping to purchase a chair for our bedroom so I can read there. When I try to read in bed, I fall asleep. When I try to read on our couch, I end up watching TV.

An easy way to start a reading routine is to set up a designated area of your home just for reading. Make it a special place where you go to unwind and dive into a good book.

3. Join Goodreads

Goodreads is an app and website where people can find book recommendations and share reviews on books they’ve read. You can also see which books your friends are reading, and track the books you’re reading/have read/want to read. I joined a year or so ago and absolutely love it.

4. Make a List

There are two types of people in this world: the list makers and those that can store a lot of info in their heads. I’m a list maker. I need lists to keep me focused on my goals. If it’s not on paper (or on my iPhone), I forget all about it. Here is a list of books that I wanted to read this summer.

Make a list of books that you want to read in the coming months. Keep it someplace that you can easily see or access.

5. Dedicate Time

I’m working on making a better nighttime routine, which includes turning off my computer and picking up a book. This is more difficult for me than it sounds. After eating dinner and taking a shower, my nights are usually spent working on the blog – writing posts, answering emails, editing photos, etc. I don’t plan on stopping that anytime soon; however, I do want to shut my laptop down by 9pm.  That gives me enough time to read for an hour and get ready for bed.

As with all goals, if you want to become a book lover, you have to dedicate time and energy. If you don’t think reading at night is your thing, then read in the morning! Figure out what works for you.

I need to work on the “dedicate time” part because I love to read!

Me too! It’s a work in progress 🙂

I don’t make enough time for reading, and I miss it! I love your idea of shutting the laptop down by 9 to leave an hour for reading.

I’m making a stronger effort, but it’s not always easy!
