Organizing under the kitchen sink at simply-nicole.com

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I spent most of the time shopping for things to organize/clean our home office. Ever since the wedding, it’s turned into a storage room. I hope to finish the room soon so I can share it with you all!

Up today: Organizing under the kitchen sink. Oh my. Under the kitchen sink. It’s an area in our apartment that can never seem to stay organized. You may remember back in May when I organized under my sink. Unfortunately, it only lasted that way for a few days. I read somewhere once that if a space continues to get cluttered, you just need to figure out a new system that works for you. Sometimes it takes a couple tries to get it right.

I’ve had this cabinet like this for a few weeks now and I can safely say that it’s working! Everything has it’s own place and items aren’t stacked on top of each other. That’s actually what gets me every time. When I start stacking bins or bottles on top of each other, I wind up just throwing them back into the cabinet instead of carefully putting it back. I recognized this habit and re-organized under my kitchen sink to make it work better for me.

The first thing I see when I open the doors under my sink is our plastic bag holder. I bought it a few weeks ago and it completely changed my life. No, I’m actually serious. Before we had this holder, our plastic bags were just thrown behind things. I was frustrated every time I went looking for anything, because the bags would just fall right out. Thanks to this Ikea gem, that doesn’t happen anymore.

The next thing under our sink is a cute little wire basket from Target’s dollar bin (it was actually $3). I use it to hold our sink stopper, sponges, blue dish rags and our Keurig cleaner.

We hold our dishwasher pods in a clear container. That way we know when we’re getting low and need to purchase more. It’s from Ikea, but I couldn’t find a link online. It’s this one but smaller.  I used to keep the original cardboard box that the pods came in, but it took up way too much unnecessary space.

Next to the pods are Bryan’s car cleaners. There’s really no better place to keep them so for now they are under our kitchen sink.

On the other side under my sink I have the cutest little bucket. I found it in the Target dollar bin next to the wire basket above. It comes in a few colors, but I picked the silver. In the bucket I keep trash bags and our most frequently used kitchen cleaners. I’ll probably do a separate post detailing my favorite natural cleaning products, so more on that soon.

When I was cleaning under the sink I realized there was a lot of smaller items (i.e. fly swatter, dish brush, dust pan and brush) that didn’t really have a “place.” Since we rent and I don’t really want to install shelves, I used Command hooks instead. They work perfectly for these random items!
