When I was growing up, the holiday season was always filled with caroling, attending Christmas eve mass, eating dinner at my grandparents’ house, and of course sending and receiving holiday cards. My mom used to tape all the cards that we’d received to the inside of our front door. I loved helping her organize them and make sure that there weren’t two snowmen or Santa Claus cards next to each other. (My organizing tendencies started young). Sending our own holiday cards was also a lot of fun. Although we never created personalized ones with our family photo on them, I loved going to the store to find the most glittery box of cards on the shelves.
I wanted to continue this special tradition with Bryan, so last year we started sending cards to our family and friends. Last year’s cards turned out so great that we used Minted again this year. I love that Minted has unique designs sourced from a community of independent artists. In fact, when the cards arrived, there was even a note from the graphic artist whose design I chose.
Since we went out to San Diego a few weeks ago, the holidays sort of crept up on us quickly this year. We didn’t have time to take a proper family photo, so I took a photo of Pete with reindeer ears instead. He wasn’t a huge fan of the festive prop, so the first batch of photos I took were terrible. Eventually, he calmed down a little and decided to lie down. But not before I could take this wonderful shot.
This year, I used the Find It Fast feature on Minted, which honestly saved me a LOT of time. It allowed me to see how the photo would look on each card design without having to click into each one. As you’ll see in the screenshot below, some designs clearly didn’t work because the letters were on top of Pete’s face.
I picked the “Holiday Pep” photo card and had the designer customize the card for us. Just another reason why I love Minted. The original design had the bottom of the card mainly white. Since our photo of Pete had a white background, I wanted the bottom of the card to be red. I wrote a note to the designer and she was able to make that change for us. They sent us a proof to approve and it looked awesome. The red background really popped!
Another feature I took advantage of this year was Minted’s free recipient addressing. They had a variety of designs and fonts, but I went with a simple but festive one. I also chose speckletone kraft envelopes with a red and white striped liner.
I’m so pleased with how our holiday cards turned out. Our family and friends really loved them!
