Our engagement party is next weekend and there seems to be so many things that still need to get done beforehand. Such as buying a dress to wear and ordering catering – which are pretty important things.
One thing that we did get done right away was determine our baker for our cupcake tower. I knew I wanted to make a dessert table, and the main dessert I wanted to be cupcakes. That is when I found Velvet Sky Bakery in Jenkintown PA.
Velvet Sky Bakery specializes in over 40 different varieties of cupcakes and custom designed cakes. You can get anything from a simple buttercream cake to the most ornate wedding cakes! One of my favorite things about Velvet Sky Bakery is that they use fresh local produce.
Velvet Sky opened in 2005 and since then they have been making delicious goodies the old fashioned way – using high quality ingredients and taking no shortcuts with their products. They’ve been featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer, Style Magazine, Comcast’s Best of City, Philly Burbs and even named in Daily Candy’s Top Ten Bakeries in Philadelphia.
Once we picked out our baker, the next step was to schedule a tasting. What other way was there to know what we would like best?! Making our consultation and tasting with Jordan, the bakery owner, was so simple. The bakery is open from 11AM-6PM Tuesday-Friday and 10AM-5PM on Saturday.
Since I was working late, I thought that if I called close to 6PM, that no one would have time to speak with me since the bakery was closing soon. To my surprise, Jordan was more than accommodating. She took time to learn a little bit about what I needed and then scheduled the consultation and tasting for a few weekends after!
Are you curious to know what flavored cupcakes we tried and what we ended up picking? I’ll be posting about our consultation and tasting next week – so keep an eye out for that!
Talk To Me
- Do you have a favorite bakery in your town? What is it?
- What’s your favorite flavor cupcake?
- Did you have a dessert table at your engagement party? If so, what did you put on it?
My MIL handled all the food/desserts for our engagement party, but she got my favorite cake (red velvet) and made a bunch of Greek cookies.
I don’t have a favorite bakery where I live, but I do have one where my in-laws are. There are actually two, one does large orders and one does smaller orders. In fact my husband and I got our wedding cake from the same place his parents got theirs 27 years earlier, and my SIL got hers there this year haha. I guess you could say it is a family favorite.
Isobel’s Cupcakes are fabulous! I also really enjoy the Flour Shoppe. Love Lemon Cupcakes 🙂
We only have one where I live, and to be honest, I’ve never ate anything from there lol. Only because I would rather make it myself. Hmmmm….My favorite cupcake I’ve ever had was a chocolate cupcake with mint frosting 🙂
I love the growing trend of cupcakes for desserts! Back a zillion years ago when I was engaged I made my own cake for my engagement party (not to save $ but because I was in culinary school at the time and still LOVED to create) and we had the most fabulous carrot cake! Our engagement party was so whimsical and relaxed, the antithesis of our black tie formal wedding! Such a fun way to contrast!
OH
see??
I knew missed out not having an engagement party.
or a wedding 🙂
I NEED A REDO.
I don’t think Josh and I are having an engagement party. Is it sort of like a bridal shower? We’re each having a bachelor/bachelorette party and I’m having two bridal showers but no engagement party. Am I supposed to be planning one? Crap, haha. I’m not the best at this bridal thing all the time. ;p
I searched out the Velvet Sky Bakery to see what types of cupcakes they offer and holy cow those all look so delicious! I’m even really intrigued by the Caprese Cupcake – that’s amazing.
