I was recently reading Cupcakes and Cashmere (one of my favorite blogs) and saw that Emily did a post about the 15 best things she ever ate. Instantly, I was inspired to create my own list. Since I’m a pescetarian and don’t eat meat products, I figured I’d have Bryan help me out with this post. Favorites from Bryan will start with his name.
1. Green Juice – Whole Foods Market | Stores Nationwide
I’d like to say I am a green juice connoisseur. If I see one on a menu someplace, I generally order it. My all-time favorite can be purchased at your local Whole Foods. It’s the “Greens With Envy” juice that they press in-store daily, which has pear, kale, cucumber, pineapple, spinach, broccoli, parsley and lemon. It’s sweet, but not too sweet, and is super refreshing after a yoga session!
2. Smoothie – Secrets Resort | Montego Bay, Jamaica
When Bryan and I visited Jamaica last year for our honeymoon, the one thing I kept raving about was this cucumber smoothie from their breakfast buffet. I drank it our first morning there, and probably had one at least three more times during our stay. It’s that amazing.
3. Coffee/Tea – ‘feine | Conshohocken, PA
As much as I love Starbucks, local coffee shops hold a special place in my heart. ‘feine in Conshohocken has so many amazing hot and iced beverages that it’s hard to pick a favorite. But if I had to pick just one, I would order the almond milk chai latte. Not many coffee shops offer almond milk, so I appreciate the option here. Bryan’s favorite drink is the coco ‘feine which has espresso with mocha, coconut syrup, milk and whipped cream.
4. Cheese Plate – The Gables at Chadds Ford | Chadds Ford, PA
Cheese plates can always be a hit or miss with me. They always seems like a good thing to order, but more times than not, they end up being a huge flop. The cheese plate at The Gables at Chadds Ford is certainly a HIT! It has toast, various soft and hard cheeses, chutney, jam, apples, strawberries, candied nuts and herbs. All the items pair so well together, which is a big factor in determining the success of a cheese plate. I did a full review on the restaurant in this post.
5. Macaron – Ladurée | New York City
This should be no surprise, but my all time favorite french macaron is from Ladurée. Since I had to go up to NYC a bunch of times for my wedding dress fittings, I had the opportunity to visit the world renown macaron bakery.
6. French Toast – Cheesecake Factory | Stores Nationwide
On Sundays, Cheesecake Factory has a legendary brunch menu, which is where I found the best bruléed french toast. They serve thick slices of french bread that is baked and grilled until golden brown. It’s topped with strawberries, powdered sugar, syrup and sweet cream.
7. Veggie Burger – YEAH! Burger | Atlanta
Before we took our vacation to Atlanta this summer, I did some research on great places to eat. I googled “best gluten-free vegan burger” and up came YEAH! Burger. YEAH! Burger believes in keeping food real and sources the most natural ingredients they can find. They use organic produce that is free of herbicides and pesticides, and use local produce when the organic is not available. The reviews were pretty amazing so I hoped it lived up to all the hype. We stopped at the restaurant as soon as we landed and I ordered the gluten-free vegan burger. Let’s just say, I kept telling our friends that it was the best veggie burger I had ever had. It’s made in-house with organic black beans, brown rice and chia seeds. I added a gluten-free bun, jalapeños, ketchup, lettuce and tomato, with a side of truffle fries.
8. Fish Dish – Jeffrey Miller Catering | Philadelphia
A lot of the protein I eat comes from fish since I don’t eat meat. Over the years since becoming pescetarian, I’ve tried many different fish dishes. Some much better than others. My all time favorite dish is the Thai coconut curry swordfish from Jeffrey Miller Catering. It’s the dish I had at our wedding. It’s extremely flavorful and melts in your mouth. I paired it with a sweet potato mash, which really offset the spiciness of the curry. When I ate it at our tasting, I knew it was going to be a fan favorite. To this day, I still get compliments from people about the food at our wedding.
9. Cheesesteak – Joe’s Steaks & Soda Shop | Philadelphia
Bryan: When you think of Philly cheesesteaks, you’ve probably have heard of Pat’s and Geno’s, but my favorite cheesesteak comes from a little shop in Northeast Philly called Joe’s (formerly known as Chink’s). It’s the most flavorful steak sandwich I’ve had, without all the added grease that some other places have. While you’re at Joe’s, be sure to pick up a milkshake to wash down your cheesesteak.
10. Burger – Phil’s Tavern | Blue Bell, PA
Bryan: I met my dad at Phil’s Tavern after work one day and ordered their Cajun Cheddar Cheeseburger on a whim. It’s topped with two onion rings and served with a side of lettuce, tomato and cajun french fries. The burger is really substantial for the price, and is nice and juicy. I loved that the roll didn’t get soggy!
