Twenty9 Restaurant Review

Twenty9 Restaurant hosted Bryan and I for dinner.
As always, all opinions are my own. For more information see my disclosures here.

On Friday, Bryan and I had dinner at Twenty9 Restaurant in Malvern, PA. I’ll be honest, the location is a bit strange. It’s tucked inside an office park. We only knew where to go because Bryan visited once to see a friend’s band play.

Twenty9 has 7,000 square feet of dining area with a main dining room, a sports bar on the lower level, and an outside bar, deck and grilling area. We sat outside on the upper deck, which has five or six tables for dinner.

Drinks

Twenty9 Restaurant Review

We started off our night with drinks, of course. I wanted a rosé, but unfortunately they were out. I ordered a riesling instead and was happy with my choice. A sweet riesling in the summer is always a good idea. Bryan was more adventurous and asked our server Nigel for recommendations on beer. He ended up ordering Nigel’s current favorite draft, Tank 7 by Boulevard Brewing Company. Bryan raved about it all during dinner. The beer is a saison/farmhouse ale with fruity aromatics, grapefruit-hoppy notes, and a peppery finish.

Appetizers

Twenty9 Restaurant review

Our server, Nigel, recommended the mentioned the lump crab fries and the prime rib egg rolls, so that’s what we chose. The lump crab fries had aged cheddar sauce and green onion (it also comes with proscuitto, but we went without it so I could eat it). If you’re not a huge fan of melted cheese, like me, I don’t think I’d recommend this appetizer. Other than that, the fries were really tasty and well-seasoned. If we go back for happy hour, I want to try the Chardonnay Steam Mussels (without the sausage). A table near us ordered them and they looked delicious.

Twenty9 Restaurant reviewThe Prime Rib Egg Rolls were a big hit with Bryan. It was his favorite part of the night. He got six rolls that were filled with juicy prime rib and caramelized onions. On the side was a hot cherry pepper and horseradish creme. It wasn’t overly greasy and was cooked perfectly. The horseradish was a good touch and complimented the dish well.

Entrees

I ordered the Rum Glaze Salmon, which had fennel, grapefruit, avocado herb dressing and fire roasted tomato sauce. I don’t believe I ever had salmon with tomato sauce, but it was really good! The sauce was a tad spicy, but the grapefruit top on cooled down the dish. It’s definitely one of my favorite salmon dishes to date.

Bryan ordered the 29 Angus Burger which was topped with braised short rib, cheddar cheese, wood grilled onion and bacon. If you’re ordering this burger, you better be HUNGRY. Bryan has had a lot of burgers recently, but this one was pretty intimidating. It was already a large burger, but was also topped with a huge chunk of short rib. After eating the egg rolls, he wasn’t able to conquer the entire thing. Don’t worry though. He took home leftovers. He chopped up the meat and added it to fried eggs to make a killer breakfast the next morning.

Dessert

Twenty9 Restaurant review

We were stuffed from dinner, but decided to split dessert anyway. We ordered the Warm Double Chocolate Brownie that was topped with peanut butter ice cream, caramelized banana and macadamia nuts. While the brownie was really yummy and almost cake-like, it wasn’t warm which was disappointing. The peanut butter ice cream, however, was absolute perfection and I don’t even like peanut butter!

After Dinner

Twenty9 Restaurant review

After we were done eating, we relaxed on the upper deck for a while and people-watched. It’s basically one of my favorite hobbies. The band started playing when we were having dessert. They were really talented and got the crowd dancing. When we first arrived to the restaurant, it definitely had a younger crowd, but towards the end of the night a slightly older crowd came to listen to the band.

Next time my friends and I are looking for a happy hour spot, I’m going to recommend Twenty9. I looked online at their happy hour menu and it looks awesome.

Thanks for the great review of Twenty 9 Restaurant, but also a big thanks the kind review of our band, Jeff Domenick and the Fraction! We love playing on the Deck at Twenty 9, and draw a great crowd there every time – yes, slightly older, but a fun, high energy crowd as well!

No problem! We had a great time!
