Being a working mom and maintaining a healthy lifestyle isn’t always easy. It’s something I prioritize not just for myself, but to set an example for my daughter. Below are some of the healthy habits I’ve integrated into my schedule. Remember, it’s the small steps and consistent effort that add up to significant changes over time. Cheers to just embracing the journey and doing what we can each and every day.
Prioritizing Self-Care
As a mom, it’s easy to put our needs on the backburner while we attend to our never-ending to-do list. I’ll be the first to admit that I do this regularly. If you’re anything like me, you know that if you put everyone above yourself… you eventually start feeling burnt out. I try to dedicate parts of my day, specifically my morning and nighttime routines, just for me. Little activities and moments of peace help me feel refreshed and recharged. Whether it’s practicing yoga, taking a relaxing shower, or enjoying time on the porch with a good book, these self-care rituals help my mood and reduce stress.
Quick Workouts
Gone are the days of spending over an hour at the gym. Now, I plan workouts anytime I have a small window of opportunity – even if it’s just 15 minutes before bed or 30 minutes during lunch. I’ll invite my daughter Vienna to join in if she wants! Walks and yoga are her favorite workouts. I’ve been a fan of adidas running shoes since college and their Cloudfoam Pure 2.0 sneakers are my current favs. They’re lightweight, insanely comfortable, and are perfect for after-dinner walks with Vienna.
Cooking Meals at Home
I love eating out at restaurants. Who doesn’t enjoy sitting outdoors at a nice restaurant with a plate of pasta and a glass of chilled white wine?! No cooking or cleaning involved! As much as I wish I could do that all the time, I know my body feels 100% better when I know exactly what ingredients are in each dish. That’s part of the reason why I grew to love cooking so much, but it definitely takes some planning and preparation. I set aside time on Sundays to plan for the week and grocery shop. I consider my family’s preferences and dietary needs, and then browse through cookbooks and Pinterest for inspo. If I know I’ll be having a busier than normal week, I’ll cook enough to portion and freeze for later. That way, I know there’s a nutritious option ready to go.
Incorporate Outdoor Fun with My Daughter
As I mentioned above, Vienna loves our after-dinner walks. It not only benefits us as a family to unwind and talk about our day, but it also fosters positive healthy habits. If we aren’t taking a family walk, we’ll play catch in our backyard, take a quick swim in the pool, or make drawings in the driveway with chalk. I work from home and spend most of my day inside, so I like to get some fresh air at the end of the day.
