This week has given me a lot of time to really think about things. A lot of things, to be honest– the current (time management, organization, classes, work) and also the future (career options, moving, goals). I’ve decided that I should start making a list of things that I need to accomplish in the next month or so. I’ve also decided that I need to start putting money into my savings account, so I don’t blow it on my random shopping trips. It’s really not that difficult to write down on paper (or virtually) your goals. The hard part is actually getting the courage to take on those goals. Here are my points of advice for goal setting.
1. Don’t be scared. It’s easy to tell yourself certain goals will never happen. Your goals can happen. It does not hurt you to actually try to achieve them. Getting the courage to list them as goals is the difficult part, as I’ve said before. Write it down. Once you see it physically out there- and out of your mind, it will be easier to map out exactly what steps need to be taken in order to achieve your goal.
2. Map out important steps. After you’ve written down your goal. Start thinking about all the steps you need to take in order to reach that goal. Examples might include: money you need to save, degrees you must attain, items you need to purchase etc.
3. Give yourself deadlines. It’s important to write down dates that you wish to complete the steps you wrote out in step two. Write down a date that you want to achieve each goal by, in order to keep yourself on track. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t accomplish each step by the certain date. Just make sure that you don’t give yourself excuses as to why you haven’t completed them. Be true to yourself and realize why you did not complete each step– also, realize why you DID complete each step. Did you have help/work on it daily?
The most important thing — be true to yourself. Go after your goals. Map out important steps. Give yourself deadlines.
