There are days like yesterday that can get me down. First off, I woke up thinking it was a Sunday because of the holiday yesterday. After work, I went to the gym although I had a weird stomach ache. After 5 minutes on the treadmill, I got the WORST side stitch. Not just a normal side cramp, but a terrible burning pain on top of my left ribcage. I stuck it out for the rest of the mile. You’d think this would get my spirits down for the rest of the week.. but it doesn’t.
This is why I love to run.
Running doesn’t come easy for me. After 5 minutes, I am already huffing and puffing and holding my side. I’ve never been a smoker, nor do I have any crazy health issues. Running makes me work.
This is why I love to run.
Running takes time. I know it’s going to take a lot of me to keep training to get better. Running everyday for 30-45 minutes keeps me intrigued in seeing my results of getting faster and running smarter.
This is why I love to run.
Running makes me fearful. The thought of running 13.1 miles in November scares the crap out of me, but that’s what keeps me going. I’m drawn to the fear of the whole experience: the burning sweat, the flow of tears, the rigorous training, the intense aches.
This is why I love to run.
Running gives me the most vivid emotions. The things I learn about myself, the feeling of completion, and the rush of the finish line… it’s all worth it.
So, yes there will be terrible days. There’s going to be days when I just want to give up and never get back out there again. But I always do get back out there, because of these reasons listed above. I love to run. To some people, I sound like a crazy person. Who wants to pay money to run a race that’s gonna just kill my body? Why, because I love it. I love everything about it.
Why do you love to run?
Looove this post. It resonates with me very much. Until a year or two ago, I loathed running. Now, I love it sort of in similar terms as you above–I run for the CHALLENGE. It’s not something I’m particularly good at, in speed or endurance, but I push my limits and get out of my comfort zone and see what I can do and accomplish. It’s all about improvement and challenging ourselves to go further.
So true. I am super slow, but its the challenge that keeps me going!
Great reasons – I love to run because you get out exactly what you put in. And as you keep working at it, you can see yourself get better. It’s such an individual sport!
Lynne, you’re right. You do get what you put into it. It’s all about you. If you want to run a marathon, you’ll train, and you’ll try.
You have plenty of time to build up endurance before Philly! You’re going to crush 13.1 miles for sure 🙂
I love to run because it’s my time with myself, to reflect on the day or just zone out, enjoying a great mix on the iPod. It’s time where nothing else matters, just you and the miles.
Those are great reasons, Melissa! Hopefully we can meet up at the marathon!
After a while running becomes even more simple, you run because you can and will run until you can’t 🙂
