I didn’t mention it in yesterday’s post, but this week I focused on outdoor runs. With the weather cooling down just a tad at night, I want to really take advantage of the breezy outdoors. That and I’m partially breaking up with the treadmill for a few days.
I had an appointment after work yesterday, so when I went out to run it was almost 7pm. It wasn’t exactly sunset during my run per say, but while I was stretching on my lawn, the sun was going down.
I did 3 mi on Monday, which was absolutely terrible. My time was just over 30 minutes. I felt like I was running through pudding the whole time. Yesterday I did another 3 mi and it felt a little better. My time was 29:09.
I wanted to make sure that I stretched a bit after my run to minimize pain today. I’m actually glad I did, because I woke up with my legs feeling pretty good. I realized yesterday that my neighborhood is pretty hilly. I’m kind of glad that it’s not completely flat, because it will get me ready for the hills I hear I’ll hit during the middle of the Philly Half Marathon. That reminds me… my half training begins next week! I can’t believe it. It feels like it was just yesterday that I registered for the half. More on my training plan later on in the week.
While waiting at my Dr. appointment yesterday, I read an old issue of Health Magazine (January’s issue, maybe?) and found this article.
Women who drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day are 15 percent less likely to develop depression than those who drank 1 cup or less! That’s good news for me! Although, as I’ve mentioned it many posts now, I’m trying to decrease the amount that I’m drinking during work.
Maybe I’ll just substitute the coffee for hot green tea once it gets cooler out. Same effect?
How many cups of coffee do you drink per day?
Do you prefer sunrise runs or sunset runs?
What’s the weather been like in your area? Still really hot?
The weather is finally cooling down here – should be excellent news for my 8mi pace run on Friday!! Couldn’t be more excited! I think that fall is definitely the best time to train for a half / marathon – the air is perfect and it’s not as wet as spring (typically!). Glad to see you’re getting back into it well after your injury! 🙂
Ah perfect for your run! I hate when it’s extremely humid, and living in Philadelphia… we have pretty humid summers!
I usually just drink one cup of coffee in the morning. Coffee isn’t easily available to me at work (I think there’s always some in the main office, but it never smells that great to me) so that helps me to keep my coffee drinking to a minimum! If I worked somewhere that I could easily access tasty coffee, I’m sure I’d be drinking much more!
We have a Flavia machine at work and I’m really not that into it. I really enjoy my townhouse complex’s free breakfast in the morning. We have starbucks coffee 🙂
Ahhh…such a zen post! I drink a couple cups of coffee per day. I used to love sunrise runs, when I was running! And here in Nor Cal? Still super, duper hot!
Yeah, I can’t wait until the weather cools down a bit. Sunrise runs are great! Haha, but this morning I walked over to pick up coffee and it was super dark out!
Welp it’s a good thing I’m on my second cup of “chock full of nuts”this morning =) I totally agree- coffee not only serves as a pick-me-up for energy in the morning, but I find my outlook on the day is lifted as well. It’s definitely a mood enhancer. Glad I would have to give it up anytime soon 😀
I truly agree its a mood enhancer. Without my daily cup of coffee, something seems “off”. HAHA. Hopefully not an addiction 🙂
I’m so ready for the cooooler nights.I won’t run. I shall WOG.
Cooler nights are the best! I’m hoping to get some night runs in next week as I start my training runs! I’m finally breaking up with the treadmill.
