fall 2019 playlist

I’m a big music person. If you’re in my car, the music is either really low so we can have a conversation or it’s blasting. There’s no in-between. I constantly have a new favorite song and will play it on repeat until I can’t stand it any longer. I don’t have a favorite genre. I’ll listen to mostly anything, but I go through phases – usually country in the summer and acoustic and alternative rock in the fall and winter. I’m randomly having a big rap moment right now. One of my new favs is “fast” by Sueco the Child. It’s dirty. Don’t listen around kids.

But let me back up for a moment. Like most kids, I grew up listening to music that my parents liked. My mom was a big classic rock fan, so the Rolling Stones (her favorite), the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Janis Joplin were always playing. My dad on the other hand is more eclectic. Some of his favorites include Nirvana, Evanescence, Amy Winehouse and Eminem. In fact, there’s been times when he’s called me and said, “Nic, did you know Eminem is dropping a new album?” I still don’t understand where his obsession with Eminem came from.

When I think about big moments in my life (both positive and negative), I always remember the music I listened to during that time. After a really awkward semi-formal dance during freshman year of high school, my friend Maddy and I blasted “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and ran around her house. During a trip to San Diego in 2008, I ran on the beach listening to Augustana’s album “All The Stars and Boulevards.” When my mom was sick, I listened to “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie and “Wonderwall” by Oasis over and over again. If I hear any of these songs, I’m instantly transported back to that specific time in my life.

I’ve been sharing a lot of my favorites songs on IG Stories and you guys seem to love it. So I figured why not share my whole fall playlist here on the blog?! Since my music preferences change so quickly, I make a new playlist every season. It’s kind of weird, but it’s something I look forward to. They’re always works in progress, as I add and remove songs throughout the season.

I find music a lot of different ways. Two of the songs on my playlist I heard from watching 13 Reasons Why – “Lovely” by Billie Eilish & Khalid and “Keeping It in the Dark” by Daya. A few I found while searching for good covers – “Fast Car” by Boyce Avenue and “Your Body Is a Wonderland” by Taylor Acorn & David Ryan. “fast” by Sueco the Child is a rap song I found while watching dance videos on IG.

My fall playlist is really all over the place. It’s not one genre by any means. It goes from explicit rap to Taylor Swift to sappy country. I flip through depending on my mood, yanno. You can listen below or click over to Spotify and listen there.  Enjoy!
