Living a Life You Are Proud Of

“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit; stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same; there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again”

-Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I saw this movie when it first came into theaters a year or so ago. I remember watching it the first night or so that it premiered. I liked it, but honestly only saw it because I heard that Brad Pitt was in a leather biker jacket on a motorcycle for a scene or two. I don’t necessarily remember the whole movie, but from what I do remember… it was kinda long. I found this quote while surfing through this blog: http://www.positivelypresent.com.
I spend a good amount of time reading through blogs of all sorts. They give me inspiration on my own writing, and keep me occupied when I am fed up with graduate work. Some people ask me why I keep a blog, who reads it, etc. Honestly, it’s not just to allow the public to read it, it’s also for me. I like writing, and I like being able to publish whatever I want… without the hassle of a publishing company. That’s the beauty of the internet and the blogging community. Sure, it is nice to get comments once in a while, because at the end of the day it’s lovely to get some feedback, but it’s great to just do what I like doing.
That’s where I got the inspiration to write this post. I am sure some of you are still in college, or maybe even high school. You probably don’t have a set idea of what you want to do with your life. And if you do know, I am sure there have been many many days and nights where you sat up wondering where life was going to take you. Nothing is set in stone. I know people who are in their mid 50’s who decided to go back to school and pursue a different career, or simply get a higher degree to do more things within their career. Age is nothing but a number.
There are people out there who don’t know what they want to do. They feel limited as to what they can do, based on their education level. My best piece of advice is to forget about it. Just go and try to get some experience on what you THINK you may be interested in. One of my professors told my class that it’s best to get out in the real world. Figuring out what you don’t want to do is just as important as figuring out what you may want to do. It doesn’t hurt to try. For those people who are afraid of failure, success will never come to you without at least trying. No one is going to be able to get where they want to be without some denial in their lives, or failure. And for those people that may get to where they want to be without failing, honestly it just sucks for them. Because when something does not go the way they had planned, they won’t know how to deal with the disappointment. Failure can only make you stronger. I never believed that, but I do remember my mom always telling me that once you hit the bottom, the only direction you can go is up. And I firmly believe that now.

thanks meg! you're too sweet

You're beautiful Nicole, I loved this. I totally agree that failure isn't something totally negative. It's a learning experience – life is a learning experience.
