Race for Hope

I did it.  I finally signed up for my first 5K.  It’s very soon… on November 6th.  I’ve been running pretty regularly since early September, so I am a very new runner.  After looking for races for weeks, I stumbled across the Race for Hope.  I think it was a sign.  The Race for Hope is partnered with the National Brain Tumor Society.  My mom passed away in 2007 from metastatic brain tumors (cancer that starts elsewhere and travels to the brain).  I couldn’t think of a better charity to support than the National Brain Tumor Society!  Here’s some information directly from their website.

“National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) is a leader in the brain tumor community, bringing together the best of research, patient services, and advocacy to be a comprehensive resource for patients, families, caregivers, researchers, and medical professionals”.

“NBTS invests wisely and strategically across the research spectrum, seeking new therapeutic targets and improving existing treatments, which will ultimately lead to a cure. NBTS provides education and information to help patients, families, and caregivers make informed decisions and develop strong support systems during every stage of the journey”.

I very much appreciate any donations that you can make.  You can read more about my story and donate by going to my personal page.  It would be great to get some healthy living bloggers involved in this amazing cause!  Thank you all in advance.

i'm so sorry to hear about your mom… but how special that you are doing your first race in honor of her. something extra behind just miles for miles sake. races are a really fun experience (i think), can't wait to hear how you do!

oh, & i hope you recover quickly from the wisdom teeth operation!!

Thanks! I am still training, because I do eventually want to run a half marathon! I need to work on my endurance.

i am wishing you good luck on the race. the most important part is that you are doing it in honor of your mother- your time, pace, milage etc. is secondary. 🙂
