Over the last decade, I’ve lived in a lot of different rentals. Some of them were absolutely gorgeous, like the apartment my friend Bridgett and I rented during our senior year of college. It had real wooden floors, exposed brick and stunning wooden beams. I’ve also lived in some places that had its quirks, like my and Bryan’s first townhouse. It had two windows total in the whole place, which made it constantly dark. We also weren’t allowed to remove the outdated vertical blinds. So there’s that.

I’ve never gotten attached to places I’ve lived because I knew that they weren’t permanent homes. The time spent in each rental varied, but two things were always the same – I always looked forward to moving into something bigger and better, and I never looked back. This time it’s different. Bryan and I are moving on Saturday and I’m feeling introspective this time around.

The last time we moved was in 2016 when we went from one apartment to another within the same complex. We were trying to have a baby and knew that we were eventually going to need more space. It wasn’t a huge change, but we gained a slightly larger second bedroom, completely updated kitchen, and a better laid out living area. I remember telling our friends how excited I was to have a fresh start.

Unlike apartments past, I’ve been through a LOT in this current place – me personally, but also us as a family. If the walls could talk! Highs, lows, and everything in-between. Probably the worst thing was struggling with infertility which brought on months of heartbreak, crying in bed and disappointing phone calls with my doctor. But then there’s so many positive memories too… finding out I was pregnant, opening the gender envelope in our living room, bringing Vienna home, watching her crawl for the first time in her nursery, taking her monthly photos on her rocking chair, having dozens of game nights with friends, running around and playing with Pete… the list goes on and on. This apartment feels different because it’s the first place that really felt like home.

Of course I’m sad as I pack up our stuff, but I’m also eager to get situated in our new home and make new memories.

So what’s our new place like? I’ll be sharing photos on the blog and Instagram soon, but here are some details for now:

+ End unit townhouse (lots of windows and light!)
+ 3 bedrooms
+ 2.5 bathrooms
+ 1 car garage (likely be used for storage)
+ Hardwood downstairs
+ Front and back patios

So excited for you Nicole! Hoping the move goes well. I get attached to places so I totally understand what you mean. Especially when the kids are involved. There are new memories to be had and I’m sure it’s going to be amazing in your new home. Yay!! So happy for y’all 😊

Thanks Prets! Hope you are doing well 🙂

That’s so exciting! Sounds like a great place for her to grow up. (And that garage will be filled with her toys and bikes soooo fast). Looking forward to the photos, and congratulations!

Thanks Andy. Yes, I am already looking forward to having a place for all the bikes and toys! Right now the toys are taking over my living room.
