Running Pop Quiz

Good morning!  Today I wanted to do a survey that I saw recently on Janae’s () and Ashley’s () blogs called the “Running Pop Quiz.”  Let’s get started!

1. FUEL: Shot Bloks, GU, Energy Chews, Candy or Other?

I’ve only tried Shot Bloks and they upset my stomach.  I was a big fan of a few months ago, but I ran out and forgot to purchase more.  My next fuel experiment during my runs will be Swedish Fish!

2. Race Length: 5k, 10k, 1/2 Marathon, Marathon, Ultra or Other?

I’ve only ever done 5Ks but I’ll be doing my first 10K next weekend and the Philadelphia Half Marathon in November!  I look forward to running these longer distances!  5Ks are great but sometimes I’m antsy to go farther. 

3. Workout Bottoms: Skirts, Running Shorts, Capris, Pants or Other?

I really loved my running skirt that I wore during a 5K this summer, but I only wear that during special runs.  I typically grab my Nike Tempo shorts if I’m going to the gym or my Underarmour tights if I’m running outside in the cold.

4. Sports Drink: Gatorade, Powerade, Cytomax, you stick to water when you run or Other?

I’ve only ever tried running with water.  I have a temperamental stomach, so I stick to water.

5. Running Temperatures: HEAT or COLD?

COLD.  I absolutely hate running in the heat.  It gets pretty hot in the Philadelphia area and the humidity is usually very high in the summer.  I’m so happy that it’s starting to cool down and I can take out my Underarmour tights!

6. Running Shoe Brands: Suacony, Mizuno, Nike, Brooks, Asics or Other?

I’ve only ever tried Nike and I’m not really a fan.  I need new sneakers as soon as possible, so I’ll be visiting a local running store very soon.

7. Pre-race meal: Oatmeal, Bagel, Banana, Eggs, Cereal or Other?

Oatmeal!  It’s just enough to keep me full, but not too full.

8. Rest Days: 1x per week, 2x or more per week, never ever ever or Other?

I rest when I feel like I need a day off.  This usually means 2 or 3 days of rest per week.

9. Music: Have to have it or go without it?

Depends on the day.  Sometimes I like to watch TV while on the treadmill, but if I’m running outside I love listening to different Pandora stations.  Some of my favorites include Lil Wayne, One Direction, and JoJo. 

10. #1 reason for running: stress-relief, endorphins, you love to race, so you can eat all the cupcakes you want, weight-loss, love running for social reasons or other?

I love to race.  I run typically because I’m training for a race.  I like registering early so I’m motivated to train!  However, I also love to run because of the endorphins.  I always feel amazing after a run, even if the run was tough!

Too funny that you’re going to try Swedish Fish as your fuel of choice for your next run! Def. let me know what you think. I tried them two weeks ago and found it too chewy and hard to swallow mid-run. During BSR training, I religiously used jelly beans and they worked perfectly, but I can’t find them anywhere this time of year 🙁 I’m going to try candy corn for my 9 mile race tomorrow…we’ll see how that goes! 🙂

Ooh candy corn is a good idea too! I’ll have to try that because I didn’t pick up Swedish Fish. I’m doing my long run (9mi) outside tomorrow morning.

Awesome that you’re on 10ks !!! I’m still working on my 5k. /not working at the moment. But I’d love to up it to 10 someday. And a half! wooo go Nicole!

I’m ALLLLL ABOUT the Mizunos — I have the Wave Riders and the Wave Enigmas to rotate through and absolutely love them. Great support, high enough on the ankle, lightweight — all amazing features. And no, they didn’t pay me to say that! 😉
I prefer running with others without music, but when I do listen, it’s typically Top 40 radio … call me crazy, but I love not having control over the music, just having it in the background and not really caring about it at all.
I love my Nike Tempos most, but with winter coming, the CoolMax tights have come out.
